Creating and verifying a customer's Microsoft 365 tenant domain

Customers that use Pexip's Cloud Video Interoperability (CVI) Service or One-Touch Join (OTJ) for Pexip Service, must complete a domain verification process for their Microsoft 365 domain before they can complete the CVI consent process or configure an OTJ calendar provider. You only have to verify the tenant domain once and it then can be used for both CVI and OTJ if required.

This is in addition to any calling domain verification process they may also need to perform, although both verification processes follow a similar procedure.

The Microsoft 365 domain is verified automatically if the same domain has already been verified as a calling domain. Note that if the root domain is already verified then a new subdomain will be automatically verified, but a new root domain is not automatically verified if only a subdomain is already verified.

The customer's Microsoft 365 domain is typically different from their calling domain, but they can both use the same domain. If their Microsoft 365 tenant is associated with multiple domains, any of these domains can be used for the verification process.

Creating a customer's Microsoft 365 tenant domain

To create a Microsoft 365 domain:

  1. In the Partner Portal, select the customer and go the Microsoft 365 Domains tab.
  2. Select the + Add Microsoft 365 Domain button.
  3. Enter the Domain Name. This is the customer's Microsoft 365 domain, also referred to as their Microsoft tenant domain.

The page also displays a Verification Code. This is the value the customer is requested to use in a DNS TXT record so that the domain name can be verified as owned by the customer.

  4. Select Next.

The portal checks that the domain is a valid Microsoft tenant domain before continuing. Note that this step only confirms that the domain is a valid tenant domain, it does not verify that the customer owns that domain from Pexip's perspective.

  5. On the next page you select the recipients of the New Microsoft 365 Domain email. If domain validation is required, this contains the instructions for setting up the DNS TXT record to verify the domain ownership, and it should be sent to the customer DNS administrator.

  6. Select Submit to create the domain and send the associated New Microsoft 365 Domain email instructions.
  7. You are returned to the list of Microsoft 365 domains and the domain you have just created has a status of Unverified if verification is required, or Verified if it has been automatically verified.

If domain validation is required, the customer should notify you when they have created their DNS TXT record. You can then verify their Microsoft domain as described below.

Verifying a customer's Microsoft 365 tenant domain

To verify a customer's Microsoft 365 domain:

  1. Select the customer and go the Microsoft 365 Domains tab.
  2. Open the Actions menu and select Verify.

This looks up the customer's DNS TXT record and confirms that the value matches the Verification Code shown in the portal for that Microsoft domain.

  3. Refresh the domains page.
  4. Check the Status in the table; it should now show as Verified.

You can now set up CVI interop for the customer for that Microsoft domain, or for OTJ customers you can inform them that they can now set up their OTJ calendar provider.
