Managing subscriptions (consumers)

In the Pexip Partner Portal, the named components that use or subscribe to the service are known as Consumers and currently include:

  • Users
  • Team VMRs
  • Endpoints
  • Domain hosting (calling domains)

Note that Users are created by invitation. If an invitee does not respond to the invitation within 10 days, and again at 30 days, the invite is re-sent. If there is no response after 60 days, the invitation is deleted along with corresponding personal data.

Consumers are organized under separate tabs in the company view:

You can add consumers, perform other actions (deleting, reactivating etc.) and also generate handouts.

Adding a consumer

Adding a consumer follows the same flow regardless of the type of consumer type. Under each tab, use the or button top-right:

  • Invite User
  • Add Team VMR
  • Add Endpoint
  • Add Calling Domain

Then follow the on-screen instructions.

Note that:

  • You need a suitable paid and available license to add a consumer (unless Evaluation Mode is open, in which case you can create trial consumers). For example, to add a User (personal VMR) or a Team VMR you need to have an available Enterprise User License or an Enterprise Wide Agreement.
  • For customers with hosted calling domains, they must create a DNS TXT record as described here, and then you must complete the domain verification process before you can create any consumer records or interop configuration that uses that domain (this is not required for *.onpexip.com domains).

Valid URI formats

When creating a video endpoint, team VMR or user address, there are certain restrictions to the format, i.e. the string before the '@domain'. It can only consist of the following:

  • English lower case letters (a-z) (capital letters will automatically be converted to lower case)
  • Numbers (0-9)
  • Special characters: . - _ (dot, dash, underscore)

Also, the string:

  • Has to be at least six characters long (only applies if you do not have custom domain hosting)
  • Cannot start with a number, dot, dash or underscore

Verifying a hosted calling domain

Customers with hosted calling domains must complete a domain verification process before they can use that domain with the Pexip Service.

Some domains are verified automatically:

  • any *.onpexip.com domains
  • where the same domain has already been verified as a Microsoft 365 domain. Note that if the root domain is already verified then a new subdomain will be automatically verified, but a new root domain is not automatically verified if only a subdomain is already verified.

After you create the domain in the portal, the customer is sent a New calling domain email that describes the DNS records they must create. If domain validation is required, this includes a DNS TXT record that is used to verify their domain against the service.

If domain validation is required, the customer should notify you when they have created their DNS TXT record. You can then verify their domain:

  1. Select the customer and go the Calling Domains tab.
  2. Open the Actions menu and select Verify.
  3. Refresh the domains page.
  4. Check the Status in the table; it should now show as Verified.

You can now create any consumer records or interop configuration that uses that domain.

Note that if this customer is using Pexip CVI they also need to verify their Microsoft 365 domain — see Creating and verifying a customer's Microsoft 365 tenant domain.

Actions menu (deleting, reactivating etc.)

You use the Actions menu to manage existing consumers. The options available depend on the current context and type of consumer.

Deleting a consumer

Sometimes you may need to delete a consumer.

Open the Actions menu inline with the consumer and select Delete.

Reactivating a consumer

Sometimes you may need to reactivate a consumer. This can happen if:

  • Pexip has extended an expired trial for you.
  • Your license plan was allowed to expire, but you have now ordered a replacement plan.

Open the Actions menu inline with the consumer and select Activate.

Endpoint actions

Additional endpoint-related actions include generating and downloading QR codes, and provisioning/configuration options.

You can also edit the endpoint's configuration. This includes the Usage model which determines if historic call data is retained or not:

  • Shared (default): data that is over 3 months old is retained but anonymized.
  • Personal: all data for that endpoint that is over 3 months old is removed from the call history view. Note that the old data is not recoverable if you subsequently change the setting back to Shared.

Calling domain actions

Additional calling domain-related actions are to resend the calling domain DNS requirements email and to verify the domain.

Batch actions

If you have many users, team VMRs or endpoints to delete or reactivate, you can use the batch update tool by selecting the icon, and then selecting the action type you want to perform.

Handouts

You can also generate a handout list of subscriptions for each customer. It lists the endpoint subscriptions, users (personal video accounts), team VMRs, and the current set of PSTN dial-in numbers for phone access to the Pexip Service.

Handouts can be exported in PDF or HTML format.
