Limiting the number of participants

You can place a limit on the number of participants that can access a particular Virtual Meeting Room or Virtual Auditorium at any one time. When such a restriction is in place, after the limit has been reached any new participants will be presented with a capacity exceeded message.

If you change this setting while a conference is in place, participants who have already joined the conference will not be affected, even if the conference is already over capacity. However, after a minute or so (when the change has been replicated to all Conferencing Nodes) any new participants attempting to join the conference will be rejected.

Only participants who are consuming a license are included in the limits. Therefore there are some participants to which the limit does not apply:

  • Infinity Connect users who have joined as presentation and control only participants (i.e. they are not sending and receiving audio or video) are not counted when calculating the number of current participants. However:
    • If such a participant has elected to receive presentations as full motion, they will be counted as a participant as soon as the presentation starts.
    • If the conference has already reached capacity and then an Infinity Connect user attempts to join as a presentation and control only participant, they will be rejected.

Note that presentation streams from standards-based endpoints and Lync / Skype for Business clients are not counted separately; such participants are only counted once regardless of whether or not there is a presentation stream in addition to the main video.

If you do not restrict the number of participants, any number of participants will be able to join the service, subject to the available capacity of your Pexip Infinity deployment.
