Activating Lifesize video endpoints

Before customers can start using their Lifesize hardware video endpoint subscription for the Pexip Service, their device needs to be activated (sometimes referred to as provisioning). This requires some intervention from the partner and some manual steps.

This article explains how to activate a Lifesize video endpoint.

Supported endpoints

The Lifesize devices supported for subscription to the Pexip Service are:

  • Second generation Lifesize endpoints Icon 400, Icon 450, Icon 600, Icon 800 with minimum release 3.4.6.

Prerequisites

Before you start, the following is required:

  • A Pexip endpoint subscription.
  • Administrator access to the endpoint's web interface.
  • The endpoint's serial number.

Activating a Lifesize endpoint for use with the Pexip Service

Please note that Lifesize video endpoints are not compatible with activation using the Activate Endpoint app.

After you have created an endpoint subscription in the Partner Portal, you need to tie the device to the endpoint subscription and download the device's manual configuration file. Selected data from this file must then be entered into the video endpoint by someone who has administrator access to the device.

Tying the device to the endpoint subscription

  1. In the Partner Portal find the endpoint subscription you want to use.
  2. Select the wrench icon next to the target endpoint subscription, and then select Edit.

  3. You see the Subscription section. Enter the device's serial number in the Tie to SN / MAC / SIM ID field, and save it.

  4. If required, on the next page, Submit a subscription email to the relevant people.

Downloading the configuration file

  1. Go back to the target endpoint subscription, select the wrench icon again but this time select Endpoint Configuration.

  2. You see the Endpoint Configuration tool screen with the Trio tab preselected (this is expected — Lifesize activation follows a similar process to activating a Trio).

  3. Select the Download Manual Config button to get a copy of the manual configuration file on your computer.

You can now continue to Configuring the endpoint.

Configuring the endpoint

From the manual configuration file you need the following parameters: reg.1.address, reg.1.auth.userId, reg.1.auth.password and tcpIpApp.sntp.address. For example:

reg.1.address="lifesizetest@onpexip.com"
reg.1.auth.userId="BBbb123b45b&bBb&"
reg.1.auth.password="C1B2BB34BbBB5BBc”
tcpIpApp.sntp.address = “time.videxio.net”

Completing the configuration

The steps below need to be done by someone with administrator access to the device. If you don't have access yourself, you can send the configuration files to an administrator to perform the steps.

Here's how to complete the configuration:

  1. Connect to endpoint's web interface.
  2. Configure SIP Registrar 1 (Preferences > SIP Registrar 1). Do not use SIP Registrar 2.

    1. Configure the following settings:

      SIP Username

      This is the username portion of the reg.1.address field from the manual configuration file.

      In our example data this is lifesizetest

      Authorization Username

      This is the value of the reg.1.auth.userId field from the manual configuration file.

      In our example data this is BBbb123b45b&bBb&

      Authorization Password

      This is the value of the reg.1.auth.password field from the manual configuration file.

      In our example data this is C1B2BB34BbBB5BBc

      SIP Server Select Auto.
      SIP Registrar Select (enable) this option.
      Registrar Hostname

      This is the domain portion of the reg.1.address field from the manual configuration file.

      In our example data this is onpexip.com

      SIP Registration Select Through Proxy.
      Sip Proxy Select (enable) this option.
      Proxy Hostname Enter registrations.mid.vp.vc
      SIP Signaling Select TLS.

    2. Select Save to save the SIP Registrar 1 settings.

  3. Configure the NTP (time) server (Preferences > Date and Time).

    1. Set the NTP Server Hostname to the value of the tcpIpApp.sntp.address field from the manual configuration file.

      In our example data this is time.videxio.net

    2. Select Save to save the Date and Time settings.
  4. This should now activate the device with the Pexip Service (there is no need to perform a system reboot). You can now check the device's status via https://analytics.pexip.com/.
